According to a report by FICCI, the Indian media & entertainment industry will grow at a compound annual rate of 13% over the next 5 years, reaching a value of 30 billion euros (1,901 billion rupees).

Below are some indications on the development of the main segments:

  • games and video games: this is the segment with the highest growth rate (+32%) and will reach a value of 492 million euros (32 billion rupees) by 2014;
  • TV: despite the global crisis, the segment grew by 6.8% in 2009;
  • films: the segment contracted by 14% in 2009, but is expected to grow by 9% over the next 5 years to a value of 2.1 billion euros (137 billion rupees);
  • press: the sector has shown moderate growth (+2%) in recent years, but will reach a value of 4.1 billion euros (269 billion rupees);
  • radio: the sector has been significantly affected by the recession. However, a growth of 16% is expected between 2010 and 2014, for a final value of 252 million euros (16.4 billion rupees);
  • music: the segment has an estimated size of 127.7 million (8.3 billion rupees) and will grow at a rate of 16% until it reaches (17.2 billion rupees).
