Made in Italy export quotas to Turkey are increasing. In fact, data on trade flows between Italy and Turkey are excellent. According to the Italian Ambassador to Ankara, Gianpaolo Scarante, during a meeting in Istanbul with Italian entrepreneurs, our exports stood at around $13.4 billion, which is the same figure recorded in 2011, when the total value of import-export with Turkey had reached its highest levels, touching $21.3 billion.
The number of our companies operating in Turkey is also growing, currently 975, as is our Foreign Direct Investment, which experienced a 50% increase.
Overall, our trade interchange with Turkey stood at around 19.7 billion USD; of note was the decline in imports, which registered a value of 6.3 billion USD.
These figures testify to how our presence in Turkey remains of significant importance as Italy ranks as the sixth largest trading partner globally. This is the ranking of the top five: Germany (34.5 billion USD in trade), Russia (33.3 billion USD), China (24.1 billion USD), Iran (21.8 billion USD) and the United States (19.7 billion USD).
These numbers continue to prove something very important for businesses in our Bel Paese. Turkey increasingly appreciates Made in Italy products, and now more than ever it can be said that Italian companies need to take advantage of this trend to increase their profits and their turnovers not only in the domestic market, but also in the international market and in a high-growth country like Turkey. Not only that, exporting or otherwise establishing a presence abroad also brings a decent competitive advantage to your company.
