New financing for exporting SMEs

Interesting opportunities are looming for Made in Italy companies intent on boosting their activities and consolidating their business abroad. Simest, which falls under the control of the Ministry of Economic Development, through Simest SpA, now controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, has decided to make some changes regarding revolving funds and, specifically, will re-propose the financing ex Law 133/08 - Art. 6, paragraph 2, lett. c “Capitalization of exporting companies” (presented already two years ago), revising its terms.

This loan, established for exporting SMEs only, in order to improve their capital strength and increase their competitiveness, provides for the disbursement of €500,000 with 4 years + 2 grace period at the rate of 0.5%, without guarantees and outside the banking channel for those companies that will fall within certain well-defined parameters.

Specifically, with the new amendments, all SMEs that have exported an average of at least 35% of their turnover in the last three years and have a ratio of equity to fixed assets between 0.8% and 2% (for service and trade SMEs, the ratio is between 1 and 2% instead) can regularly apply; note also, that the application can also be made by S.r.l., but at the time of financing they will have to be incorporated as an S.p.A.

The intervention will consist of two separate phases:

  • Disbursement and preamortization phase;
  • repayment phase.

Regarding disbursement, The 100% of the grant will be awarded within 6 months of the resolution, which in turn will be within 3 months of the application.

This is a particularly important measure for Italian Small and Medium Enterprises, which are grappling with a difficult economic environment, and whose need to internationalize their activities is becoming increasingly pressing, especially in order not to be crushed by international competition in global markets.
