Development of the Indian media&entertainment industry

According to a report by FICCI, India's media & entertainment industry will grow at a compound annual rate of 13% over the next 5 years to a value of 30 billion euros (1,901 billion rupees).

Following are some indications of the development of the main segments:

  • games and video games: this is the fastest growing segment (+32%) and will reach a value of 492 million euros (32 billion rupiah) by 2014;
  • TV: Despite the global crisis, the segment grew by 6.8% in 2009;
  • films: the segment contracted 14% in 2009, but is expected to grow 9% over the next five years to a value of 2.1 billion euros (137 billion rupees);
  • printing: the sector has shown moderate development (+2%) in recent years, but will reach a value of 4.1 billion euros (269 billion rupees);
  • radio: the sector has been significantly affected by the recession. However, it is expected to grow by 16% between 2010 and 2014, with a final value of 252 million euros (16.4 billion rupees);
  • music: the segment has an estimated size of 127.7 million (8.3 billion rupiah) and will grow at a rate of 16% to (17.2 billion rupiah).
