In order to consolidate its technical and engineering expertise, Escorts Group, a leading Indian manufacturer of construction machinery, agricultural machinery, and also operating in the automotive and railway sectors, has initiated a collaboration with Locatelli Crane, an Italian crane manufacturer.
This partnership will allow Escorts Group to expand its product portfolio in the construction machinery market by locally producing slewing cranes with a 360-degree rotation and a capacity of 60-80 tons. This type of product is primarily used in material handling and transportation for large infrastructure projects, such as the construction of power plants, subways, and bridges. Production will commence in eighteen months.
According to Nikhil Nanda, Joint Managing Director of the company, this is an ambitious operation and Escorts intends to act with a medium to long-term perspective, as the demand for the construction machinery sector in India is experiencing a strong increase. The Faridabad-based company has also planned a merger of its subsidiaries.
Nanda himself also stated that Escorts is looking for 14 hectares of land to expand production capacity in the next four years, and that the partnership with Locatelli is just the first of several technical collaborations that will take place in the future, for the construction machinery and agricultural machinery sectors.
