Italian exports on the upswing

This is not meant to be an ultimatum but certainly, as is often the case in these situations, “first come, first served”. The market is extremely receptive and the demand for the Made in Italy continues to grow, but this will sooner or later begin to slow down, and only those who start immediately will benefit the most.

Italian export numbers (Ice Report data):

- first quarter 2021: +19.8% trend over the same period 2020 and +4.2% over the period 2019;

- food, beverages and tobacco products: +5.3% over the same period in 2020, and even +12.3% over the same period in 2019;

- metals sector: +29.1% over the first four months of 2020 and +12% over the same period in 2019;

- chemicals: +10.2% and +7.1% for the same period over 2019;

- electrical appliance compartment: +31.6% over the same period in 2020 and +8.2% over 2019;

- pharmaceutical, chemical-medicinal and botanical items are instead down 8.2%.

Let's see to which countries exports in the first four months of 2021 are mainly directed and the extent of the increase compared to the same period in 2020 (Ice Report data):

- China, +55,3%;

- Countries Bass e Poland, +32,9%;

- France, +23,2%;

- Spain, +23%;

- Germany, +22,6%;

- Belgium, +14%;

- Switzerland, +20%;

- United States, +4,5%.

As of May 2021 (Istat data), exports grow year-on-year by 41.9%, with a sustained increase in sales to both non-EU markets (+44.0%) and the EU area (+40.0%). On a year-on-year basis, exports grow to all major partner countries:

- France, growth of 43,2%

- Germany, growth of 30,9%

- United States, growth of 43,0%

- Spain, growth of 56,7%

- United Kingdom, growth of 44,2%
